Devine Native Plantings is hiring two college age outdoor educators/mentors for the summer season, and one intern (for college credit) for summer or fall! These positions will be for our youth education program Biodiversity Builders℠ this summer. Below is the information for the positions. SUMMER: Outdoor Educator/Mentor- (2 positions)
June 13th - August 19th, 2022 – 20-30 hours/week – $18/hour.
Responsibilities: Based in Cambridge (and occasionally Arlington and Belmont), college mentors lead students to sell, install, and maintain native plant gardens. Learn about native plants, landscaping techniques, business operations and marketing and sales. Work with staff to shape and deliver curriculum materials and model positive peer and customer interactions. Most of work takes place outdoors under summer weather conditions including heat/sun, humidity, and occasional rain. Content lessons happen indoors.
Position Requirements and Qualifications for Summer positions: Energetic and passionate about ecology and youth education. Excited about working outside/ getting your hands dirty. Experienced working with teens, and able to provide good judgement in a group setting. Participate in planning and training sessions, assist in setting up workspace/ classroom. Ability to comfortably move through multiple roles. Self-motivated and works well alone and as part of a team. Environmental Science background. Business background helpful but not essential. Ability to carry 25 lbs, and learn as you go. Having your own vehicle is a plus.
SPRING/SUMMER/OR FALL: Curriculum Design Intern (unpaid, for course credit)
Dates flexible depending on school schedule and requirements.
Responsibilities: You will learn about native plants, landscaping techniques, business operations, and marketing and sales. Creativity and self-direction surrounding interactive education techniques. You will help design curriculum plans and teaching tools for Biodiversity BuildersSM program. Work closely with staff to design, trial, implement, and document activities, games, challenges, etc for students.
Position Requirements and Qualifications for ALL positions: College or graduate student. 19+ years old. Self-motivated and works well independently and with a team. Background in Environmental Science, Conservation Biology, Education, and/or Art. Strong interest in earth advocacy and grassroots solutions. Creative drive and proficiency in social media, writing, and google suite desired. Students from marginalized communities encouraged to apply.
