Earth Day: a time for community and activism for our planet!
Happy earth day! As many of us say and feel strongly— every day is earth day. But, today is a great day for reflection, community building, awareness, and connecting with mother earth. In honor of this day, on Sunday April 21st (yesterday) Jean and Ellen Mass lead a group of volunteers in a garden cleanup at our Biodiversity Builders teaching site, the Alewife Showcase Biodiversity Pollinator Garden (ASBPG) within Alewife Reservation in Cambridge. With 10 eager volunteers, they were able to clean up a significant amount of trash on the Northside of Alewife Reservation and cut and stack season’s past goldenrod sticks. Instead of composting the sticks, volunteers helped Jean and Ellen make a fence along the backside of the garden to continue providing habitat for pollinators and insects. We are looking forward to taking inventory of emerging plants, and bringing new students in to help with garden planting, maintenance, insect and wildlife tracking and more! Keep an eye out for our Summer 2024 Biodiversity Builders Applications. Recruiting for Arlington and Belmont BB students begins soon. If you are a Cambridge CRLS student, make sure to get your application in to Biodiversity Builders through MSYEP by April 26th!
