Biodiversity Builders 2023 in Full Swing!

It is hard to believe Biodiversity Builders summer session is already in week 3- time is flying! Our BB team boasts an excellent group of 15 enthusiastic, smart, silly, and eager high school students and 2 equally intelligent and earnest college students! Our program runs two-days a week in Arlington/Belmont working on native plant client projects, or traveling to local gardens/conservation sites; and two days at our teaching garden within Alewife Reservation in Cambridge working on citizen science, business lessons, and hosting guest speakers. Highlights from our first three weeks are: Mothers Out Front soil group, a guided tour of Mount Auburn Cometary, exploring mission, vision, values and designing logos, invasive pulls at magazine beach with Elaine Crowder of ArMI and Sasha Vallieres of Charles River Conservancy, garden planting and maintenance, a trip to Habitat in Belmont, and designing a pollinator garden in 1 hour! We have three more weeks to round out our program with our student-run plant sale, kayaking to the floating wetlands, presentations of self-directed projects, and more client installs and visits from community leaders.

Our program depends on support from friends and neighbors like you! Every donation contributes to curriculum development and implementation, student and guest speaker stipends, and transportation and materials costs. A donation to Biodiversity Builders ensures healthy youth development, biodiverse habitats, and a resilient community!
