Pondering Rachel Carson’s Impact

Bryan Pfeiffer wrote a beautiful piece on the sixty year anniversary of “Silent Spring”- a book that changed the way humans interact with nature. Rachel Carson is another Eco-Hero we love who made a great impact through her confidence as a scientist, admiration for nature, and research on the chemical industry, bird populations, and marine life. Pfeiffer delves into a walking exploration in Carson’s old stomping grounds in Maine to ponder the question: “Can ONE person make the same impact TODAY, as they could sixty years ago?”. Sixty years ago, social media and the media itself was less prevalent. How would the criticism and character attack of Rachel Carson look if her findings were published today? The article is linked above and embedded below from the Boston Globe. Check our Rachel Carson Eco-Hero card, as part of a much larger project DNP has been working on!
